Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, Tuesday evening received the Ambassador of Belgium to Nigeria, His Excellency Mr Peter Leenknegt, who arrived in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital and paid a courtesy visit to the Governor.
Receiving the Ambassador, Dr Agbu Kefas, reiterated his administration's commitment to building and maintaining a productive relationship with the Kingdom of Belgium.
Dr. Agbu Kefas expressed delight at the Ambassador’s visit, describing it as a significant step toward international cooperation and investment.
The Governor noted that the Ambassador’s early visit to parts of Takum had given him firsthand experience of the state’s rich culture and economic potential. “You have a lot to tell the world about what you have seen here,” he said.
Reflecting on the achievements of his administration within two years, Governor Kefas stated that Taraba has made considerable progress and is now gaining national and international attention.
He emphasized the need for partnerships with forward-thinking individuals and nations to accelerate development.
He further highlighted the state's natural and economic resources, including hydroelectric potential and cocoa production. He proposed the establishment of a cocoa-processing factory to convert raw cocoa into finished products like chocolate (cacao-based goods), thereby boosting the local economy.
In his response, Ambassador Leenknegt expressed his honour at visiting Taraba State, particularly after he toured the Kashimbila area. He said he was impressed with what he had seen and the information he had received about the state.
He described Taraba as a tourist-friendly destination, noting that the state offers everything visitors might want, including serene environments for weekend getaways.
The Ambassador also revealed that he had recently met with Nigeria’s Vice President, who spoke highly of Governor Kefas. “The Vice President praised Governor Kefas and referred to him as a young man doing great things in Taraba,” he said. He added that such compliments coming from across party lines are a positive sign for the state's future.
