Bauchi Governor Launches Action Plan On Woman, Peace And Security


...Says gender inclusion is a cardinal principle of his administration. 


Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State on Tuesday morning launched an Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security designed to increase women participation in conflict resolution.




Speaking while launching the policy at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Bauchi, pledged to work towards the full implementation of the action plan for the benefit of women and children in the state. 


The governor reiterated the commitment of the state government to fund the implementation of the policy through a budget-line in the Ministry of Women Affairs and other frontline ministries. 



He noted that, gender inclusion is a cardinal principle of his administration's efforts since inception and pledged the readiness of the government to increase the participation of women in decision making roles especially in peace and security mechanisms. 


"I am highly delighted to welcome you to this important occasion, in Bauchi we are doing a lot for the wellbeing of our women and children."


"I want to tell you that, our women in Bauchi are reliable and can be trusted and that is why my administration appointed women in various positions of government in recognition of their role to societal development."


Governor Bala Mohammed said already his administration has created an enabling environment for sustainable partnership with international and bilateral partners and other stakeholders for the advancement of women's participation in peace and security. 


In a keynote address, the County Representative, UN Women, Mrs Comfort Lamptey said UN Women is committed to building a strong partnership in advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in Bauchi state in key priority areas. 


"I would like to acknowledge the positive partnership and collaboration between the Bauchi State Government and UN Women to date, towards developing and validating the State Action Plan on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security and enhancing the capacity of legislators in advancing the policy agenda."



On her part, the Country Director, International Alert, Mrs Wangari Wanjau commended the state government for supporting the Ministry of Women and Child Development to discharge its assigned responsibilities accordingly.
