N16.6 Billion For The Upgrade Of RSU: Demonstrates Gov. Wike's Commitment To Make Rivers Educational Hub And Center Of Excellence In the Training Of Health Professionals - Banigo
Rivers State Deputy Governor Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo says the release of the sum of N16.6 billion for the upgrade of facilities in the Rivers State University is a clear demonstration of Governor Wike’s commitment to make Rivers State the Educational Hub of Nigeria.
Dr. Banigo disclosed this in a statement from the Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday 11th February, 2021.
The Deputy Governor who is a Public Health Physician of International repute, expressed delight that the N7.6 billion released to the College of Medical Sciences of the University to setup the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Clinical Sciences as well as the Pathology Building, would not only qualify the Teaching Hospital for full accreditation but make Rivers State a Centre of Excellence in the Training of Healthcare Professionals.
“The College will now be accredited to take a full stream of 150 undergraduate students annually in medical sciences”. The Deputy Governor stressed.
Dr. Banigo who described good Health and Education as a catalyst to fast track the socio-economic development of the society said Governor Wike’s huge investment in health and human capital development is exceptional, noting that it behoves on all well-meaning Rivers People to continue to support him to succeed in the quest to turn around the State for the benefit of all.
The Deputy Governor who is the Chairman of Rivers State Ease of Doing Business Council and also Chairman of the State Core Working Group on Human Capital Development Programme, said the establishment of new campuses of the University would not only promote human Capital development but create more job opportunities and stimulate business growth within the University campuses and its environs, stressing that issues of poverty and sustainable economic development of the citizenry would be addressed by this action.
