Governor Mutfwang Partners Plateau Assembly For Peace, Unity, And Good Governance
The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has emphasized the need for a collaborative and symbiotic relationship with the Plateau State House of Assembly in order to foster peace, unity, and deliver the desired dividends of democracy to people of the State.
Governor Mutfwang made this call on Wednesday during a breakfast meeting with members of the House, led by the Speaker Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan, at the Old Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.
The Governor commended the members for their dedication to impactful legislation, noting that now, with the complete inauguration of the 24-member Assembly, the stage is set for enhanced collaboration aimed at preserving and promoting Plateau’s rich heritage.
"Let me sincerely appreciate all of you," the Governor said. "Now that we have a full 24-member House, as required by law and as expected by the people, I am pleased to formally welcome the Assembly as we work together for the greater good of Plateau State."
Reflecting on the political journey since 2023, Governor Mutfwang expressed the belief that divine providence had brought them together, stating: "Destiny has led us here. When we started this journey, we did not foresee this particular outcome, but God, in His wisdom, has brought us together for a purpose. What we see happening in Plateau State today is the breakdown of political boundaries, giving rise to what I call the ‘Plateau People's Party’ – a unifying platform for all."
The Governor stressed that it would be regrettable if Plateau's citizens were shortchanged under the current dispensation, urging the legislators to work in concert with his administration to leave the state better than they found it.
"My dream, my ambition, and my desire are to ensure that we collectively prioritize the interests of the Plateau people in all that we do. Let us not take this opportunity for granted. Many of you were not initially in the House, but God has placed you here. I am also here by God’s grace. Together, let’s do the will of God, which aligns with the will of the people."
Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for the House to function optimally, noting that several crucial legislative tasks awaited their attention. He pledged to work closely with the Assembly to ensure it becomes one of the most effective Houses in the state's history.
Responding, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan expressed gratitude to the Governor for his unwavering support and encouragement, which have facilitated smooth legislative proceedings. He assured the Governor of the Assembly’s commitment to supporting his administration’s vision for a prosperous Plateau.
