Governor Kefas Pledges to Remodel Taraba High Court, Strengthen Judiciary-Legislature Ties

The Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, has pledged to remodel the State High Court Complex to create a conducive environment for judicial officers to perform their duties effectively.

The Governor made this commitment on Monday, 24th March 2025, during a working visit to the Taraba State High Court of Justice and the House of Assembly Complex in Jalingo.

During his visit, Dr. Kefas first stopped at the High Court Complex in Jalingo, where he addressed the judicial officers present. He stated that his visit was a follow-up to a recent workshop aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Executive and Judicial branches of government, fostering checks and balances to ensure true democracy and good governance.

Dr. Kefas emphasized that the recent workshop established a clear agenda for good governance, urging all arms of government to collaborate to improve the state.

He provided a briefing on his administration's commitment to revamping the education and health sectors, as well as developing the necessary infrastructure to advance the state.

The Governor encouraged the judicial officers to prioritize the dispensation of justice, accountability, and sound governance, reaffirming his dedication to building a better Taraba State.

Taraba State Chief Judge, Justice Filibus Joel Agya, acknowledged the Governor's ongoing support, noting that under Governor Kefas' administration, the judiciary has seen over a 100% increase in its operational budget, which has facilitated the development of infrastructure across all judicial divisions.

Justice Agya urged the Governor to rebuild the Judicial Service Commission's office complex, which was destroyed by fire ten years ago. He also requested the establishment of additional judicial divisions in Bali, Zing, and Karim Lamido to help alleviate the workload on the existing judges.

At the Taraba State House of Assembly in Jalingo, the Governor sought the cooperation of the legislative branch, particularly in driving developmental policies.

He encouraged the legislators to perform their oversight duties in alignment with the executive arm.

The Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena remarked that the Governor's visit illustrates his commitment to the legislative branch of government.

He noted that Dr. Kefas was the first governor to pay a working visit to the Assembly and assured him of the Legislators' partnership in achieving his developmental goals. He also expressed gratitude to the Governor for remodelling the housing complex, allocating funds for training members, and supporting them in their engagement with the public and project initiatives.

The Governor was accompanied on his visit by several top government officials.
