PDP Governors Congratulate Former President, H.E. Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Winner, 2025 Sunhak Peace Prize

The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) under the Chairmanship of H.E. Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (CON), the Governor of Bauchi State, on behalf of all the member Governors, heartily join the entire global community and Nigerians in particular to celebrate H.E. Dr. Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as he bags the prestigious "2025 Founders Sunhak Peace Prize" (FSPP), in an unanimously accepted nomination and recognition of his outstanding and consistent mediation and pro-democracy activities to bring peace throughout Africa, especially through the instrumentality of the associations he chairs, including the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF), the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) and the International Summit Council for Peace (ISCP).

2. Since leaving office in 2015, he has been very visible on the global theatre advocating and propagating peace towards the development of humanity; thus we celebrate him and  return all gratitude to the Almighty God for the care and guidance as he goes about in the selfless service to mankind.

3. This recognition  being one of the highest global  honours reserved for men of outstanding initiatives across the world cannot be fully appreciated if his days (2010-2015) as the President of our beloved country, are not recalled, where he in no small measure transformed the nation's landscape and the lives of the citizens with impactful policies, projects and programs in every nook, cranny, length and breadth of our collective co-existence.

4. In the build up of activities by the FSPP Foundation to decorate him at the sixth edition of its biennial event on Friday, April 11, 2015,in Seoul, South Korea, we take delight in refreshing our memories on the several outstanding and yet to be broken record of the  achievements of his administration;

- Nigeria rebased its gross domestic product for the first time in over a decade, becoming the largest economy in Africa by overtaking South Africa and Egypt.

- The promotion and practice of true democracy by creating an enabling environment for the accommodation of diverse backgrounds,  divergent views and opinions. Under his watch, the APC was registered by INEC as a mega opposition party big enough to challenge the PDP at both state and national levels. This was unthinkable some years back and is even more impossible now under the APC at the centre.

- There was relative non-interference with electoral and judicial matters, even as he promoted the conduct of free and fair elections in the country, by giving a free hand to the country’s electoral umpire, INEC, to perform its statutory duties.

- Liberalization of the press and guaranteeing the freedom of speech in a country where the stifling of the press and suppression of the citizens’ right to freedom of speech used to be the norm.

- Opening up of the country to the global business community and becoming Africa’s number one destination of foreign investors. In the first six months of 2014, a total of US$9.70 billion or N1.51 trillion flowed into the national economy as foreign direct investments (FDI).

5. Today, this nomination makes Fmr. President Jonathan, the first African and the third  leader after the former United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon and the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen  to be so recognized by the Foundation,

6. We pray for divine protection upon him and his family as he continues to lead and serve by example beyond borders.

Your Excellency, Congratulations once again!

Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, FNMS, MFR,

Director General,

PDP-GF, Abuja.
