PDP Elects New NWC Says Party On Rescue Mission
The People's Democratic Party has elected a new National Working Committee to oversee affairs of PDP in the next four years.
Delegates who converged on Abuja were in high spirit and one accord to make a statement. They have come from all the 36 States of Nigeria to vote in new party executive.
It took the Fintiri led National Convention Organising Committee only 6 weeks to plan and execute this successful process.
The Dr Iyorchia Ayu led NWC will however have to wait until December 9th to assume office. This is to enable the present Working Committee serve out its tenure.
Voting started around 6 pm on Saturday through the night ending at 4:30 Sunday morning.
Out of the 21 offices contested, 18 were unopposed including that of the National Chairman.
Convention Organising Committee Chairman, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri notes that the PDP is on a rescue mission and will not let Nigerians down.
While regretting the state of the nation, Governor Fintiri likened the challenges of Nigeria today to the years preceding the return to democracy in 1999 when the nation stood tall as a giant in Africa, but has been reduced to an inconsequential midget with the suffocating toga of a pariah nation.
He noted that the Party symbolises free Democratic and prosperous nation that works for every citizen.
The Governor said the party has demonstrated commitment to those time tested ideals that Nigerians have every reason to trust PDP more than a contraption that was formed solely for purpose of winning elections, but bereft of the knowledge of what to do with the victory.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri commended all committees that assisted to ensure a successful Convention.
Responding on behalf of the new National Working Committee members, incoming Chairman Dr Iyorchia Ayu said no stone will be left unturned towards the rescue mission, promising to consolidate on the gains of the present Working Committee and ensure PDP retakes power in 2021.
The October 30th and 31st convention which the suspended Chairman Uche Secondus tried to scuttle could not be as the Court of Appeal gave judgment in favour of the People's Democratic Party, thus paving way for the Convention to hold.
