Governor Agbu Kefas Reaffirms Commitment to Promoting Cultural Heritage of Ethnic Groups in Taraba State
Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has reaffirmed his administration's dedication to fostering initiatives that preserve and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the state's diverse ethnic groups.
During his remarks at the 2025 Belle Cultural Festival of the Mumuye people on Friday 25th January 2025 in Zing, the Governor highlighted the significance of the festival, which not only marks the beginning of the Mumuye new year calendar but also celebrates the end of the harvest period—a time for the community to come together and enjoy the fruits of their labour.
Dr Kefas emphasized that the festival serves as a vital platform for reflecting on the challenges faced by the people and their collective aspirations. He stressed that the Mumuye community exemplifies bravery both in their traditions and in their efforts to promote peace and harmony.
The Governor lauded the Belle Cultural Festival as an excellent opportunity to strengthen bonds of unity and to encourage cooperation among the various communities in Taraba State. He underscored the importance of addressing challenges such as poverty, unemployment, and insecurity through collective action and solidarity.
In a show of support for the cultural heritage, former Governor Rev. Jolly Nyame and His Royal Highness Alhaji Suleiman Ibrahim Sambo, the Kpanti Zing, expressed gratitude that the Governor's presence at the festival signifies his appreciation for Mumuye culture.
Hon. Titus Davoro, the Chairman of the Zing local government area, spoke on the potential of the Belle Cultural Festival to evolve into a prominent tourist destination, drawing visitors from across Nigeria and beyond. He called on the state government for technical assistance to enhance the venue with world-class facilities.
In addition, he requested support for the establishment of a Belle Cultural Village that would include office space, a historic museum, and branded vehicles to elevate the festival's profile.
The event showcased vibrant cultural displays and allowed attendees to witness the rich heritage of the Mumuye people.
The presentation of traditional regalia to the Governor by the Kpanti Zing further underscored the significance of the occasion.
Upon his arrival in Zing, the Governor also took the time to pay a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, the Kpanti Zing, Alhaji Suleiman Ibrahim Sambo in his palace, reinforcing the spirit of collaboration and respect for the community leader.
