Governor Mutfwang Visits Useni’s Residence in Abuja, Commiserates With Family, and Assures of a Befitting Burial for the Elder Statesman
Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has paid a condolence visit to the Abuja residence of the late Lt. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, mni, former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to sympathize with his family following the elder statesman's passing after a prolonged illness.
Governor Mutfwang, who was warmly received by Senator Napoleon Bali, the son-in-law of the late General Useni, alongside family members and Tarok Elders, described the departed elder statesman as a beacon of hope and a model of selfless service to God and humanity.
The Governor highlighted General Useni’s invaluable contributions to Plateau State and the nation, noting that he was a distinguished military leader who brought pride to Plateau State through his exemplary service both in the military and in politics.
"General Useni was a refined and accomplished leader whose life epitomized service, discipline, and compassion. Plateau people are proud to identify with him as a towering figure who brought honor to the state," Governor Mutfwang said.
He further emphasized the need for unity among stakeholders to ensure a befitting burial for the elder statesman, acknowledging the profound impact of his life and legacy on humanity.
"I am here to pay my respects to the immediate family of our late father, Lt. General Jeremiah Useni, who passed away a few days ago. I closely monitored his health since last year and was privileged to visit him on multiple occasions. Less than a month ago, I sat with him, and we prayed together.
"We all hoped he would recover and continue playing his role as a father and elder statesman. His status transcends the Tarok nation and Plateau State. It is no exaggeration to say that, at one point in this country, he was effectively the de facto number two."
Governor Mutfwang recounted General Useni’s distinguished career, serving honorably as Governor of Old Bendel State, Minister of Transportation, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and as Senator representing Plateau South in the 8th National Assembly.
The Governor lauded the late General's life of selflessness, compassion, and generosity, noting that his legacy would endure in the hearts of those he impacted. He offered heartfelt condolences to the immediate family, the Tarok nation, Plateau State, and the nation at large, praying for divine comfort and strength during this difficult time.
Responding, Senator Napoleon Bali, the late General’s son-in-law, expressed gratitude to Governor Mutfwang and his delegation, noting that the visit had eased the family's pain.
Speaking on behalf of the Tarok Elders, Prof. Doknan Sheni, along with Mr. Nanyak Kumsal, Director of the Abuja Liaison Office, commended the Governor for his swift intervention and assured him of their unwavering commitment to ensuring a befitting burial for the late elder statesman.
