Governor Bala Inaugurates Community Policing Committee

 Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has on Tuesday inaugurated a 21-member committee on Community Policing in the state.

According to a press release issued to newsmen in Bauchi by Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor, Lawal Muazu, the committee is saddled with the responsibility of implementing initiatives to complementing the efforts of police in providing internal security.

The event which was held at banquet hall Bauchi, Governor Bala charged the committees to work with relevant security agencies in order to solve contemporary challenges facing their communities.



Governor Bala urged them to work in accordance to their terms of reference and assured of his administration's support in the discharge of their assigned responsibilities.

Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 12, AIG Sunusi Lemu delivered a key note address on the importance of the initiative towards enhancing the operation of the police in Nigeria for efficient and effective service delivery.

Meanwhile, State Commissioner of Police, CP Lawal Jimeta who welcomed the invited guests at the inauguration, described the initiative as a tool for solving security challenges in the state.

CP acknowledged the support of the state government, traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders to the state police command in the ongoing fight against crime and criminality.

On his remark, the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleimanu Adamu who is the Chairman of the committees, expressed gratitude to Governor Bala for finding them worthy to Chair the committee, pledging to work towards achieving the desired objectives.

The Community Advisory Committee is to be co-chaired by the State Commissioner of Police while the Chairman of Council of Traditional Chiefs is to report to the State Governor on matters concerning operations of community policing committees while the community policing committee is to foster security awareness and monitors progress on community policing.


Top government officials who attended the event are the State Deputy Governor, Senator Baba Tela, Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Sabiu Baba, Chief of Staff, Government House Bauchi, Dr Ladan Salihu, State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Hamza Koshe Akuyam, Emirs of Bauchi, Katagum and Ningi Honorable Commissioners as well as Special Advisers and other appointees.
