Sokoto Govt Commences Second Phase Distribution of COVID -19 Palliatives to Vulnerable Groups
Sokoto State Government has formally taken over some of the pledged support from the Private sector-led Coalition Against COVID-19, CACOVID, distributed to the state.
In his remarks at the event, the Sokoto State Governor, Rt. Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mal Saidu Umar, thanked the organization for their support since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic.
"This is not the first time the CACOVID are supporting us, it is not unusual that we are here to receive these usual items," he said.
He further thanked them and appreciated their involvement in helping the government to complement its effort in reducing the hardship that the whole world is suffering as a result of the Corona Virus pandemic.
Earlier in his welcome address, the State Taskforce Committee on COVID-19 chairman, who also doubles as the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muhammad Ali Inname, said: "It is a great pleasure to be here again for the distribution of palliatives to the vulnerable groups in the state for the second time".
Dr. Inname said the CACOVID pledged to support 42,828 households across the 23 LGAs in the state. He also added that his committee has received 59 trucks out of the 79 promised by the CACOVID so far.
The Taskforce chairman also said that each intended beneficiary will get 10kg of rice, 5kg of Somovita, 2 cartons of Indomies, 2 cartons of sphagetti, 5kg of sugar and 1kg of salt.
Various invited guests made their remarks such as Zakat Commission Chairman, State CACOVID Chairman, among others.
The event took place at the SARDA Headquarters, Sokoto. It was highlighted by the distribution of the palliatives to the selected vulnerable groups of Sokoto North.
