Ikpeazu Leads Abia PDP to a Successful Congress

The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected a new executive with a Former Speaker Abia House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Alwell Asiforo Okere as the State Chairman and Hon. Obinna Nwachukwu as deputy.

 The Chairman polled a total of 2,105  votes while his Deputy Obinna Nwachukwu garnered 2051 votes.

 Addressing party faithfuls at the end of the the State Congress of the party held at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Governor and leader of the party in the State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu congratulated the newly elected PDP State Executive and Working Committee on their emergence. He also thanked the Chairman of the Electoral Committee and his team for a job well done and reminded the incoming executive of the PDP that the party is one family.


 According to the Governor , despite winning elections in the past, the tasks of winning elections cannot be taken for granted and therefore charged the new executive to ensure that the party grows from strength to strength in order to continue recording electoral victories.

 In that regard, the Governor charged the new executive to begin work immediately, traversing every nook and cranny of the State and reminding party faithfuls of the need to cooperate with the new party leadership in the State. He said he has no doubt that the new Chairman is capable of leading the party to the path of victory and disclosed that the State PDP is willing to help the party at the national level to regain power.

 The Governor, who said that PDP seems to be the only hope of the people called on aggrieved members of the party to seek redress within the available channels in the party

Announcing the results, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Rt . Hon. Kenneth Okon thanked the Governor for his patience and appreciated the delegates for conducting themselves accordingly.


 Earlier, National Organising Secretary of the PDP, Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd) stressed the need for peaceful running of the party by the new executive and urged them to take the party to the next level, especially as the party was getting ready for the next general elections.


Also speaking earlier, the acting Caretaker Committee, PDP Abia State chapter, Chief P.C Onyegbu called on the new State executive to run a unified party devoid of rancour and ensure no factions exist as it was in the outgoing executive.

  The event which attracted many party faithfuls including the Deputy Governor, Speaker and members of the State Assembly, Members of the National Assembly, Local Government Party executive among others, observation of a minute silence in honour of the late PDP State Chairman, Sir. Johnson Onuigbo while delegates wore facemasks in line with the NCDC guidelines.
