Sokoto Mart Fire: Tambuwal Directs C'ttee To Secure Unaffected Part For Indigent Traders

Hearkening to requests of some victims of the Tuesday morning Sokoto market inferno, Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State has directed the state committee on the disaster to allow them go back to their businesses.

In the same breath, Gov. Tambuwal urged the committee led by his Deputy, Hon. Muhammad Dan'Iya, to provide the worried traders with the security.


According to the governor, who received the management of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), who came to commiserate with him and people of the state, although almost 60% of the market was razed by the fire, his administration is committed to rebuilding it and giving support to the victims.


He told the visitors about the committee constituted under the leadership of Dan'Iya, saying it has already swung into action in its bid to beat the one week deadline set for it..


He thanked the management of UDUS for their concern.


In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of UDUS, Prof. Lawal Suleman Bilbis, who led the university's management said they commiserated with the governor and people of  Sokoto State over the fire disaster that ravaged the Sokoto Central Market.

He said the entire University community are saddened by the disaster and prayed Allah to make it easy for those who lost their property.


The VC said they had also visited the scene and the Sultan's palace.
