Gov. Diri Charges Appointees To Be Good Ambassadors

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has asked his appointees to be worthy ambassadors and representatives of the Prosperity Administration. 

Speaking during a meeting with the appointees at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Government House, Governor Diri also urged them to constantly educate the people about government policies and programmes. 

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Daniel Alabrah, quoted the governor as charging the appointees to work as a team to achieve set goals in order to move the state forward. 

He cautioned them against pursuing selfish interest, saying they should see their appointments as an opportunity to serve the people of the state. 

He described the emergence of the Prosperity Government as divine and called on the appointees to always return thanks to God due to the circumstances that brought the administration to power.

The Bayelsa chief executive reaffirmed his commitment to the infrastructure development of the state, saying having put behind the challenges of the past year, the administration was poised to make real impact on the lives of Bayelsans.

He said funds have been released for projects such as the Yenagoa-Oporoma road, the Igbogene- AIT ring road and rehabilitation of internal roads in the state capital while the Gloryland Drive road leading to the Government House would be a dual carriageway among other projects. 

While appreciating his appointees and supporters of the party for their support during the governorship and senatorial bye-elections, Governor Diri noted that everybody cannot be an appointee but called on those privileged to serve to carry others along. 

He reminded the appointees that the government owed the people of the state the task of leaving a worthy legacy and urged them to spread love and peace in their various areas. 

His words: “For too long, our state has been in a state of hatred, acrimony and bitterness. Let me charge you to be torch bearers of the Prosperity Administration, to be those who exude love within the PDP, within Bayelsa and outside the state. Do not be quick to anger, be patient and above all exude love.

“As leaders in your own rights, by this appointment, you are the servant and not the master. Let us remove the instincts of grabbing. We are here to serve and as such, in your ministries, departments and agencies, please try to leave a good legacy. We all owe service to the people of Bayelsa state. So, I urge you to see your offices as places of service. 

“We have started road construction projects. I have approved payment and money has been disbursed for one lane for now of the AIT-Igbogene road project. The road to Oporoma, which had been done to a point, we need to construct a bridge at Aguobiri. As we speak, I have approved the continuation of that road and also to finish the bridge across the river this year.”

The governor expressed joy over the resolution of the crisis in Nembe, which had displaced supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying all hands must be on deck to sustain the prevailing peace.
