RSG Expresses Delight To Partner With Rotary

The Rivers State Government says it is pleased to partner with Rotary Club in the quest to positively impact on our Communities.

Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike stated this during the Rotary Club District 9141 Conference at the Obi Wali International Conference Centre, in Port Harcourt.

Speaking through his Deputy, Dr. Mrs Ipalibo Harry Banigo, Governor Wike, said as a voluntary, not for profit International Organization, Rotary Club had become a household name, having addressed several service projects and committed service to community and humanity.

According to the Governor, Rotary, which is globally known as the World’s First Service Club, has always emphasized inclusiveness and innovation in its activities.

The State Chief Executive, who expressed delight with the eradication of polio in Nigeria and by extension Africa, applauded Rotary for playing a pivotal role in the fight to kick out polio.

“Today, in Nigeria and Africa we are confident no child is paralysed because of poliomyelitis again. Most of that work was spearheaded by Rotary through your “End Polio Now Campaign” alongside with World Health Organization, UNICEF and other Development Partners”. Governor Wike further stressed.

Governor Wike urged Rotary to use more of its professional skills to mentor young people in Rivers State, help vulnerable and underserved communities and people with special needs.

In her address the District Governor, 2020-2021 Virginia Major who gave an update of the District’s activities in the past 10 months,  disclosed that District 9141 which is almost four years old was carved out of the old District 9140.

Virginia Major who said, every District Governor comes with a lot of District emphasis, added that her District  emphasis is in line with Rotary International's strategic priorities, which according to her, includes, increased  impact, expanded reach, enhanced participants engagements and increase  in abilities to adapt.
