Taraba Gov Launches Campaign Against Malnutrition.

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has announced a campaign to tackle malnutrition in the state from 2024 to 2025, addressing both direct and indirect causes.

The Governor made this announcement on Monday during a meeting with nutrition experts at the Exco Chambers of the T.Y. Danjuma House in Jalingo. His goal is to address the state’s nutrition issues as part of his administration's commitment to improving health and wellbeing for the people.

To support this effort, Governor Kefas established a nutrition committee, led by Health Commissioner Dr. Bodiya Buma and comprising various experts, to prepare a budget proposal, which he promised to swiftly approve.
Dr. Bodiya Buma identified poverty and food insecurity as major causes of malnutrition during the meeting and emphasized the ongoing collaborations with several organizations to address these issues.
Taraba State Specialist Hospital's Nutrition and Dietetics head, Mrs. Grace Stephen, revealed that Taraba State has exceptionally high malnutrition rates in the northeast, leading to stunted growth and undernourishment in children, largely due to inadequate diets, lack of access to nutritious food, and poor feeding practices.
She outlined a plan to address the crisis, including the need for medical supplies, therapeutic food, skilled health workers, policy enforcement, and greater public awareness.
