Burial of youth killed by APC chieftains in Brass: Gov. Diri commiserates with family, community

 ...directs prosecution of Sylva, others

...offers employment to wives of deceased

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Douye Diri, today, attended the burial of the Twon-Brass youth who was murdered at the Brass Local Government Area collation centre during the last Bayelsa Gubernatorial election.

The slain youth, Mr. George Sibo, who was a devoted member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), was at the Local Government's collation centre in his hometown, Twon-Brass, when the APC Gubernatorial Candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva and his squad left their community Okpoama to Twon-Brass for reasons best known to him that led to severe unrest, and ultimately the loss of this young promising life.

Gov. Diri, appreciated the community for being law abiding, and keeping the peace even in the face of obvious provocations, as he encouraged them to keep being peaceful.

He also used the opportunity to offer his condolences to the family of the deceased, as he offered state employment to the wives of the deceased to enable them take care of the children he left behind.

His Excellency equally notified the community that he ordered for an autopsy to be carried out, and that the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice will be instituting a case against Chief Sylva and his cohorts.

"George Sibo's only offence was coming out as a patriotic citizen of Nigeria to vote and staying back to protect his vote, for which his young life was caught short.

As a governor who values the lives of his people, I have come to condone the family he has left behind, and encourage our youths to not let themselves be used as tools to kill each other.

As for this case, I called for an autopsy to be carried out, and it has been carried out, and I have asked my Attorney General to institute a case against Chief Sylva and all those who invaded the collation centre that led to the killing of Sibo.”

Gov. Diri said, “He has left behind two children with two mothers, therefore, the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Civil Service is hereby directed to employ both mothers."

Notable on the Governor's entourage were, the Member Representing Nembe/Brass Federal Constituency, Hon. Marie Ebikake, Member Representing Yenagoa/Kolokuma-Opokuma Federal Constituency, Hon. Oforji Oboku, Member Representing Brass Constituency 1 in the State Assembly, Hon. Daniel Charles, Chairmen of both Nembe and Brass Local Government Areas, some Members of State Executive Council, Former Member Representing Nembe/Brass Federal Constituency, Hon.
