June 12 Democracy Day: PDP Governors' Forum Felicitates With Nigerians

The Peoples Democratic Party Governors' Forum, PDP-GF, under the Chairmanship of His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (CON) and Governor of Bauchi State heartily felicitates with Nigerians on this auspicious celebration of the 2024 Democracy Day.

2. We reassert our firm stand for an enduring democracy, having sustained this journey since 1999 and equally seize this opportunity to salute the Nigerian people for their courage and resilience in our joint resolve to create a genuine and lasting solution to rescue our nation, Nigeria, from the doldrums we all are now facing.

3. Although today's report on where we find our country is chequered with stiff challenges and hard times, yet our collective will is not to give up on our dreams and the vision of our party's founding fathers over twenty five years ago to build a virile and egalitarian nation together.

4. Recounting the days of activism to end the draconian military rule in Nigeria, which birthed our democracy of today, can only rekindle the fire of patriotism to enthrone excellence and dedicated service to build a great and strong nation.

5. The Forum is obliged to highlight the multiple achievements and innovations established by the PDP elected governments in their successive 16 years of governance between 1999 to 2015.

6. Our mark of diligence is attested to by the numerous pacesetter projects which they established such as the Global Satellite Mobile (GSM); Infrastructure Development such as road construction, sports infrastructure, electricity generation. The PDP implemented economic reforms aimed at promoting growth and stability namely privatization of state-owned enterprises, deregulation of certain sectors, and enormous foreign direct investment.

7. The PDP prioritized education and healthcare. It established new universities, upgraded existing ones. In agriculture, the PDP supported agricultural development through initiatives such as the Growth Enhancement Support Scheme (GES) and increased funding for agriculture as well as  introduced social welfare programs to alleviate poverty and improve living standards. These included conditional cash transfer programs and youth empowerment initiatives; aside also setting up the anti-corruption agencies whose operations remain functional today.

8. Upon the transition of power at the centre to the opposition in 2015, the PDP government led by the indefatigable democrat and former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, exemplified humanity in leadership and demystified power to set a global reference point.

9. In this nine (9) year period led by the opposition, the PDP controlled sub-national have sustained the development strides of the founding fathers, both palliative in calls for intervention and  long-term solutions provision, to raise the living standards of our people, as illustrated in legacy projects implemented by the governments in Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Enugu, Plateau, Adamawa, Edo, Zamfara, Osun, Delta, Taraba, Rivers and Bayelsa States.

10. We sincerely urge all Nigerians to keep the faith with us as we rise to the challenges arising from the backwardness thrusted on us by the grueling anti-people  policies and programs orchestrated in dissonance to the tenets of good governance.

11. In our references, the values which the annulled June 12 election cast aboard, were represented in the free and fair elections endorsed by the former President Jonathan who had accepted the 2015 election results in the spirit of sportsmanship, without extra-judicial interference.

12. The Forum has been visionary and very determined to maintain the growth of democracy and equally create the enabling environment for good governance whose dividends include both local and foreign direct investments to further grow our economies for the development for our people

13. We will continue to consolidate on these foundations we have laid so far by expanding the scope for agriculture to attain food security for a dependable food supply, employment opportunities, SME growth, improved education and unhindered access to healthcare services, energy provision, road infrastructure and urban renewal, industrialization and enhanced security, among other things.

14. We revert to the Labour Unions and the Federal Government to urgently conclude talks on the minimum wage reflective of present day's economy as a matter of necessity with humaneness to save the nation from anarchy and total breakdown of law.

15. The Forum once more extends to Nigerians the highest esteem and the reassurances of committed service at all times.
