Osun State Marks 33 Years with Governor Adeleke's Call for Unity and Progress
Osogbo, August 27, 2024 — Osun State celebrated its 33rd anniversary with a state broadcast by Governor Nurudeen Jackson Ademola Adeleke, who reflected on the state’s journey since its creation in 1991 and called for unity and continued progress.
In his address, Governor Adeleke highlighted the significance of the day, describing the creation of Osun State as a dream achieved through unity and determination. "Today, we stand united in celebration of a journey that began three decades ago, marked by determination, resilience, and a strong belief in our collective future," he stated.
The governor recounted the historical struggle for the state’s formation, which began in the 1950s with various commissions of inquiry in the old Oyo State. He paid tribute to the founding fathers and leaders who advocated for Osun’s recognition as a separate entity, including traditional rulers such as the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, and the late Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Oyewale Matanmi. "To these heroes, we owe our deepest gratitude. Their sacrifices remain the foundation upon which we stand today," he said.
Governor Adeleke also acknowledged the efforts of numerous politicians and activists who played key roles in the state's creation, including his late father, Senator Raji Adeleke, and other prominent figures like Chief Bola Ige and Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa. He expressed hope that their legacies would continue to inspire future generations.
Reflecting on the progress made over the past 33 years, Governor Adeleke cited achievements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth empowerment. He highlighted renovations in schools and healthcare centers, the development of modern infrastructure, and initiatives to boost the digital economy and agro-industrialization. "Osun State has continued to evolve, becoming a model for other states in the Federation," he noted.
Looking ahead, Governor Adeleke called for a renewed commitment to the development of Osun State, urging citizens to work together across political divides. He emphasized the importance of unity and resilience in overcoming challenges and building a prosperous state for all. "Our challenges are not insurmountable; they are opportunities for us to demonstrate our commitment to building a prosperous state for all," he said.
The governor reiterated his dedication to transparent and accountable governance and encouraged all citizens, including traditional rulers, civil servants, and entrepreneurs, to contribute to the state’s development. "Together, we can make Osun a model of excellence and progress," he affirmed.
Governor Adeleke concluded his address by expressing gratitude to the people of Osun State for their continued support and urging them to maintain the spirit of unity and cooperation. He called on everyone to recommit to the values that inspired the creation of the state and to work towards a brighter future. "Let us continue to walk this path together, hand in hand, towards a brighter and more prosperous future," he concluded.
The broadcast ended with Governor Adeleke wishing the people a happy anniversary and calling for continued support for the government and the state. "May God bless Osun State, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria," he said.
