Governor Samuel Ortom says he prefers practical and benefical results about programmes of government including partnerships with donor agencies and other relevant organisations.
He spoke on Friday at Benue Peoples' House, Makurdi, while presenting a Hilux Van to the USAID Feed The Future Nigerian Agribusiness Investment Activity to facilitate their operations in the State.
The Governor noted that emphasis must be given on practical results and no more theories, assuring however that his administration would continue to champion and support initiatives that would add value to the economic development of the State.
Mrs. Esther Aino, Benue State Agribusiness Coordinator for the USAID Feed The Future Nigerian Agribusiness Investment Activity said that the programme was aimed at training and facilitating access to loan facilities by Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs, for the purpose of doing agribusiness.
She explained that the programme covers five selected value chains among which are rice, soyabeans, maize, cowpeas and fisheries, adding that the organisation in collaboration with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN, had trained 100 SMEs in Makurdi and 30 had already completed their loan applications.
While noting that more SMEs would be trained in Otukpo and Gboko in due course, Mrs. Aino further explained that a help desk had already been established in Makurdi to guide applicants on how to apply and access funding for agribusiness.
According to her, the organisation is presently in seven States of the country including Benue, pointing out that with the keen support exhibited by the Governor, positive results would soon manifest.
Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Terwase Orbunde, stated that sensitization of the public through education, advocacy, training among others were being done to let the people key into the programme which he noted is for five years and in its first year, adding that successes therefrom would speak for itself.
