SOKOTO PREPARES FOR COVID-19

In preparation against  the viral epidemic Coronavirus  Disease, code named - Covid-19, the Sokoto State Government has put in place adequate arrangement to curtail its possible outbreak in the State.


Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Ali Innami, made this known earlier on Sunday while briefing newsmen on the update of the COVID -19 in the State even as he disclosed that a suspected victim of the disease has been tested negative.

Dr. Inname explained that a 20 -bed capacity isolation centre has been provided with all the required facility.

He added that a holding centre has also been established at the Specialist Hospital, Sokoto.

Among other measures being taken by the State Government, the Commissioner also disclosed  that his ministry has embarked on the training of all staff (Drs, nurses, cleaners, drivers) involved with the outbreak response.

Other measures include "closure of schools at all levels, banning of all unnecessary gatherings and engagement with Ulamas through the Sultanate Council in order to address religious gatherings".

He said that personal protective equipment will be provided at all the necessary gatherings in the State, as well as the enhancement of vigilance at the motor parks, border communities, Usman Faruk, Shehu Kangiwa, Federal Secretariats as well as  the Government House, Sokoto.

He further explained that the State Government would continue to enlighten people through jingles production, periodic press briefings while the Ministry of Health would collaborate with that of Education, the Airport Authority, Port Health and other security operatives in the State in order to fully curtail the virus.
