IYC COMMENDS GOV. DIRI FOR SWIFT INTERVENTION TO POOR POWER SITUATION IN BAYELSA STATE


- Urges PHEDC to Maintain Agreements Reached With Govt as Council Watch Over Their Activities For Improvement

- Called On GM Bayelsa State Electricity Company To Go On Voluntary Retirement

The leadership of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Central Zone has commended His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri and his dependable Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrujakpo, for their swift intervention to the poor power supply in the State upon their inauguration.

Speaking to newsmen at Yenagoa, Chairman of the zone, Comrade Kennedy Olorogun, commended the State Government for making power supply one of her priorities by inviting all relevant stakeholders in the Port-Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC).

Comr. Olorogun added, "Upon the meeting with the leadership of PHEDC we are expecting the power supply to improve, as a council our eyes are on them as a watchdog to ensure agreements reached with Government should be maintained for the good of Bayelsans".

The zonal leadership also yearned for the power supply to be extended to villages outside Yenagoa to enable the people feel the true dividends of democracy.

The Zonal IYC leadership equally used the medium to applaud Engr. Olice Kemenanabo, a member of the Board of Directors with PHEDC and also the GM of the Bayelsa State Electricity Company, for longtime services rendered to the State.


Comr. Olorogun stated, "Mr. Olice has been in that office since Late Alamieyesingha's administration, he added, "So many persons have worked with him, and with their wealth of experience, they can also man that office".

The Zonal Chairman lamented, "Mr. Olice is among the contributors of the poor power supply in the State, noting from his years of service as General Manager, the zone called on him to go for voluntary retirement to allow other patriotic and capable hands to take over responsibility from him to man the office for the overall interests of Bayelsa State".
