Edo beats 35 others states, bags e-governance implementation award, two others

The Edo State Government has emerged overall best in e-governance implementation in Nigeria, defeating 35 other states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to clinch the award.

The government also emerged as the first runner-up in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Human Capital Development and Performing State in ICT Infrastructural Development.

Presenting the awards to Governor Godwin Obaseki at the Executive Council (EXCO) Chamber, Government House, Benin City, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Mrs. Birgitta Eno Okodugha, said the award is in recognition of the governor’s efforts at embracing technology.

Obaseki, receiving the award, thanked the National Council on Communication and Digital Economy of the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy for the recognition.

According to him, "From the beginning, we made it clear on how to move the state through e-governance and ICT. We are glad at the progress we have made in terms of using technology to run the government.

“We have the tools now to store as much data as possible for the development of the state; technology has been helpful in our developmental process.

“As we commence our e-governance platform, we are undertaking digitalization of government records. All the records generated in Edo State are now being stored and will be made available anytime it is needed.”

“We are equally going back to capture our data and make it available when needed. I just informed EXCO members that from 1st of January 2022, all emails that come into my office will be digitalized, as well as my responses,” Obaseki noted.
