Gov Okezie Ikpeazu and Wife Mark Their 29th Wedding Anniversary

Today, 29th December, 2020, will mark exactly 29 years of the wedding between Okezie Victor Chibuikem Ikpeazu and Nkechi Caroline Ikpeazu (Nee Nwakanma).

It's been 29 years of the presence of God and His blessings.

When the young academic doctor from Umuobiakwa took former Miss Nwakanma from the neighboring Ohanze Community to the alter, no one knew what the future held. All they wanted then was to build a happy and compact family.

Little did the young couple realize that fate had perfected plans to play a trick on them. An interesting trick. 

Little did they know that God Almighty, in His infinite wisdom and knowledge, had picked them for a special assignment.

Today, Okezie Ikpeazu, PhD is currently in his second term as the democratically elected Governor of Abia State with his wife, constantly providing the needed support and taking charge of the home front.

The hand of God upon this couple is evident from the fact that despite every attempt to dislodge them, they have remained unmoved. In the history of politics in Nigeria, no governor has been subjected to the number of court cases Governor Ikpeazu underwent between 2015 and 2019, all in a bid to remove him from the office of Governor of Abia State. 

The story of the emergence of this couple as Governor and Wife of Governor is one that will be told for generations to come. It has all the trappings of a fairy tale.

It is a story that proves beyond any shadow of doubt that indeed, God rules in the affairs of men.

It is a story that should inspire younger people.

The marriage has been blessed by God profusely. Four adorable children who are slowly but steadily marching on with life, a family that has remained as compact as the couple first planned, despite the trappings of office.

The governor and his wife are grateful to God for His love and sustainance all these years. He had led them through the thicks and thins of married life.

The First Couple will spend the greater part of today quietly and in sober reflection. They have asked their friends and indeed, all Abians to join them in prayers of Thanksgiving to God in their respective private capacities.

The good Lord who lifted you up will sustain you continually through your tenure in office and way beyond it.

The Psalmist captures it succinctly in the book of Psalms 125: 1...

"Those who trust in the Lord shall be like Mount Zion which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forever more."
